Hello, we are Mary and Karen.
We are both registered nurses and have been based at Cann Bridge School since 2017 as part of the Children’s Community Nursing Team. We work alongside school staff to enable children and young people to participate as fully as possible in all aspects of school activities.

We provide support and training on areas such as:

  • Medication administration
  • Gastrostomy feeding
  • Epilepsy / emergency medication
  • Diabetic care / insulin administration
  • Asthma / inhaler administration
  • Oxygen and suction
  • Allergies / anaphylaxis / auto-injectors
  • Education on specific medical conditions and other needs

We write EHCP health reports and attend child protection meetings when involved with a child.

We are happy to discuss your child’s medical needs at any time and work in partnership with you. To do this, we liaise with outside agencies to ensure your child receives the best care. It is really helpful if, when you attend medical appointments with your child, you request that we are included in copies of the clinic letters so we can stay up to date.

We will always ask for consent prior to making any referrals to other professionals.

The nurses are part of a School Nurse Forum, which includes our managers and other nurses employed by UHP working at Woodlands and Mill Ford in Plymouth. Through this forum, we have ongoing education, share resources, and exchange experiences to benefit our students.

Several clinics are held at the school on a regular basis.
