At Cann Bridge, we believe that good attendance is key to helping our pupils feel settled, maintain friendships, and make the most of their learning, preparing them well for happy and successful futures. To achieve this, it is important that children and young people benefit as much as possible from their time in school. We therefore expect pupils to attend every day unless they are genuinely unwell, and we work closely with families to support this.

We recognise that some children face barriers to regular attendance, and we are committed to working with parents and carers to understand these challenges and provide the right support. Where pupils are absent due to illness, medical needs, or other exceptional circumstances, we work in partnership with families to ensure that children return to school smoothly and with confidence.

On the first day of absence, please telephone the school before 9:15am to let us know your child is off and the reason for their absence. Absences must be reported by phone—we cannot accept messages via School Transport or email.

If your child needs time away from school for any reason other than illness, you must complete a Leave of Absence Form, available from the school reception or downloadable from this page.

Attendance is monitored regularly. If a child’s attendance or punctuality causes concern, we will contact parents to discuss how we can work together to improve it. Our focus is always on support first, though legal measures may be considered if persistent absence continues without a valid reason.

For pupils with medical conditions or frequent illness, we work with families and the Local Authority to balance health needs with maximising time in school, so children can make the most of their education without negatively affecting their wellbeing.

If you are experiencing any difficulties in getting your child to school, please talk to us—we are here to help.

By working in partnership with families, we aim to ensure that every child has the best chance to learn, grow, and thrive.
