Lockdown Information for Families
At Cann Bridge School, safeguarding and the safety of our learners is our highest priority. While lockdown situations are extremely rare, it is important that we have clear procedures in place to ensure the safety of everyone on site.
We have introduced a Security Lockdown & Invacuation Procedure as part of our emergency planning. This is a standard health and safety measure, similar to a fire drill, and is designed to protect learners, staff, and visitors in the event of a potential threat.
What is a Security Lockdown?
A security lockdown is used when it is safer for everyone to remain inside the building. The aim is to keep people secure by confining them to a safe space. Situations where a lockdown may be necessary include:
- Civil disturbance or incident in the local community
- Intruder on site
- Local air pollution (e.g. smoke plume, chemical or gas leak)
- Major fire nearby
- Dangerous dog or wild animal loose in the area
- Incident related to terrorism
Instructions for Families During a Lockdown
If a lockdown occurs, please follow these important guidelines:
- Wait for communication from the school – we will contact you via text and email
- Do not come to the school unless instructed to do so
- Do not call the school – this may hinder communication with emergency services
- Avoid posting on social media – this can spread misinformation and cause unnecessary panic
- If the lockdown extends beyond school hours, School Transport will be informed for emergency support
- Once the lockdown ends, the Person in Charge will communicate with all parents/carers
Lockdown Drills
To ensure everyone is prepared, we conduct lockdown drills periodically. Prior to each drill, staff will explain the procedure to learners during circle or tutor time, reassuring them that it is a practice to help keep everyone safe. After the drill, staff will reinforce that the school remains a safe place to learn.
If you or your child have any questions or concerns about the lockdown procedure, please contact:
