Cann Bridge School’s Breakfast Club provides a calm, nurturing, and well‑structured start to the school day, offering morning wraparound provision for families who require early drop‑off. Designed with wellbeing at its heart, the club supports families with work commitments and additional respite needs, while giving pupils a soft start to the morning in a warm, welcoming environment supported by staff who know them well.
The Breakfast Club runs daily from 7:30am to 9:15am and takes place in our newly refurbished staff room, transformed in April 2026 into a comfortable, well‑equipped space. The refurbishment includes new furniture, resources, flooring, and a screen, creating a high‑quality environment that supports pupils’ needs. This multi‑functional space continues to serve as the staffroom during the school day and a meeting hub in the evenings, reinforcing its role as a community space at the heart of our school.
Pupils attending Breakfast Club are offered a nutritious breakfast, promoting healthy eating and physical wellbeing. Sessions also support the development of independence and personal hygiene routines, alongside opportunities for positive social interaction, emotional regulation, and relationship‑building. The calm and predictable nature of the provision helps pupils transition smoothly into the school day feeling settled, secure, and ready to learn.
Breakfast Club is staffed by trained members of the Cann Bridge team, ensuring consistency, strong safeguarding, and care that aligns fully with the school’s ethos and values. It is particularly beneficial for pupils who benefit from routine, predictability, and emotional reassurance, while also providing valuable practical support for families at the start of the day.
We are proud to be the first special school locally to access funding through the Department for Education’s Wraparound Expansion Revenue Grant Programme, supported by Plymouth City Council. This funding enables us to subsidise the provision during 2026/27, helping to keep it affordable and accessible for families. We remain committed to seeking further funding to sustain this valuable support in the future.
Places are limited and must be booked and paid for in advance, with sessions charged at £6 per hour (including breakfast). The Breakfast Club is initially offered as a one‑year provision, after which consultation and sustainability considerations will guide its future.
In addition, Nurture Breakfast will continue to be offered across the school between 9:15am and 9:30am, ensuring all learners are calm, settled, and ready to learn.
