In Spring 2025, Cann Bridge School proudly opened its Communication, Language and Literacy Library, a dedicated space designed to inspire a lifelong love of reading, communication, and learning. This significant achievement was made possible through the generosity of supporters, charitable donations, and the tireless efforts of Wendy Fisher (Volunteer Fundraiser), who led The Library Appeal with an original fundraising target of £11,500.
The appeal exceeded all expectations, ultimately raising an incredible £16,000. This additional funding not only enabled the creation of the new library but also allowed us to significantly enhance reading materials and literacy resources throughout the school. As a result, pupils and staff now benefit from an expanded range of books, communication resources, and curriculum materials within the library and across classrooms, ensuring that high-quality reading opportunities are accessible to all learners.
Prior to the appeal, our library provision was limited to a small cupboard, restricting access to valuable reading and learning resources. Thanks to the success of the fundraising campaign, an existing storage area was transformed into a vibrant, welcoming library complete with comfortable reading spaces and dedicated areas for interventions, including emotional literacy support and small group activities. Additional storage solutions were also created to ensure resources are well organised, easily accessible, and effectively utilised across the school.
The library has quickly become a central hub for learning, providing an engaging environment where pupils can explore books, develop communication and literacy skills, and discover the enjoyment of reading. It also supports staff in delivering high-quality literacy experiences and interventions tailored to individual needs.
This exciting development represents a major investment in the future of our learners, strengthening opportunities for communication, language, and literacy while fostering curiosity, confidence, and a culture of reading throughout the school community.
