At Cann Bridge School, pupils benefit enormously from outdoor learning opportunities. We recognise the important role that outdoor experiences play in supporting communication, wellbeing, physical development, independence, and engagement. Our commitment to this area of the curriculum is outlined in our Outdoor Learning Policy, which can be found on the Creativity and The Arts Team page.

All learners have direct access to an outdoor space from their classroom. This enables learning to extend beyond the traditional classroom environment, providing valuable opportunities for sensory exploration, physical activity, regulation, and the application of skills in meaningful real-world contexts.

The school is fortunate to have a wide range of outdoor learning facilities, including our own Forest School area, which is regularly maintained by Key Stage 4 learners as part of their learning and life skills development. We also have an Outdoor Classroom within our Science Garden, where pupils can take part in gardening activities, environmental studies, and hands-on learning experiences. In addition, pupils have access to a shared sports field and Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), supporting physical education, recreation, and teamwork.

Our site includes two dedicated playgrounds, one for the lower school and one for the upper school. These areas feature a variety of playground equipment, fitness stations, and educational playground markings, encouraging active play, social interaction, and physical development. Much of this provision has been made possible through charitable donations, successful fundraising initiatives, and the effective use of the school's Sports Premium funding.

We also enjoy shared access with Tor Bridge Primary School to the Adventure Lane, an exciting outdoor play and learning area designed for pupils in Key Stage 2 and below. This additional facility further enriches our outdoor curriculum and provides valuable opportunities for exploration, challenge, and imaginative play.

Through our extensive outdoor provision, we aim to create engaging and inclusive learning experiences that enable every pupil to learn, explore, and thrive both inside and outside the classroom.
